According to Apple, Windows 7 BootCamp official support wont be here until later this year. Apple is going to support Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. This will be a software upgrade for Mac OS X Snow Leopard released from Apple later this year.

Not all the Intel based Macs will be able to run Windows 7. The following computers below is not officially supported according to Apple:

  • iMac (17-inch, early 2006)
  • iMac (17-inch, late 2006)
  • iMac (20-inch, early 2006)
  • iMac (20-inch, late 2006)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, early 2006)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, late 2006)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, late 2006)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, early 2006)
  • Mac Pro (2006, Intel Xeon Dual-core 2.66GHz or 3GHz)

Even though Apple now, does not support Windows 7 BootCamp installation I have read reports from users getting it to work anyway.

You may also chose to install Windows 7 virtually instead. Using Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion. It depends on how much performance you need. For gaming, BootCamp would be best suited, because you need all the power you can get from your computer to run games.
