If you are in the market for a new MacBook Pro this is the right time to buy one. Apple recently updated the MBP lineup with new CPUs, graphics and I/O.
The Core 2 Duo CPU is now removed from the 13 - Inch and replaced with 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core. You can also get the 13 - Inch with 2.7GHz i7 with turbo boost speeds up to 3.4GHz. Mac OS X regulates this for you automatically.
If you move up the 15 and 17 - Inch you get the quad-core i7 instead. Can be bought up to 2.3GHz at the moment. This CPU is a bit beefier compared to the 13 Inch.
The graphic cards is also updated. The 13 Inch MacBook Pro got the Intel HD Graphics 3000. It will work fine with things you do every day. It will encode video, you can make HD calls with FaceTime and you can play back movies without problems.
If you use more graphic intensive applications like games you should really move up the 15 Inch. They come with discrete AMD Graphics that is better suited for gaming. Early reviews also shows promising gaming results. StarCraft 2 / World of Warcraft at least runs smooth on normal / ultra graphics.
Apple also introduced a technology called Thunderbolt. You can think of it like an ultra high super speedy USB port. It is 20 times faster than USB 2.0. The idea is to connect high performance peripherals to this port. Like super - fast hard drive arrays to name one. By the way it shares the same port as the Mini Display Port.
The MacBook pro have a built-in webcam. This camera is also updated and supports HD resolutions.
The SD card slot is now SDXC compatible supporting memory cards up to 64GB.
All in all a pretty good update in my opinion. Hurry up and buy!
