The MacBook Air Hard Drive is no regular 2.5" laptop drive. In fact the drive is 1.8". It is not easily user replaceable but it can be done if you are willing to try. If you have the Air released in Late 2010 you have an SSD drive inside and the instructions below does not apply to you. It only applies to older MacBook Airs.
To keep the MacBook Air so thin Apple was forced to do some compromises. One of those was to use a smaller drive. The standard SATA drive is a 4200 rpm drive, not so fast but you can get the SSD drive instead and that should give you a little performance boost while digging a bigger hole in your wallet.
But what if I want to replace the drive myself, cant I do that or what ...?
Of course you can!
If you know your way around a screwdriver and have a bit of technical knowledge I do not think it will be such a big problem replacing the drive. There are guides out there explaining how to tear open the MacBook Air and if you are careful it should be just fine.
iFixit is always a good choice for tear-down guides and it is also the perfect place to find MacBook Air Parts.
I was searching a little bit about this procedure and found a video that might interest you. Check it out below.
So you see it is possible, just take your time and go slow and steady, you will have your drive replaced in no time.
