iPod touch is a media player with a lot of features. It looks almost like the iPhone
iPod touch is a media player with a lot of great features. It looks almost like the iPhone, have almost the same size and have the same gorgeous screen. As everything else Apple make it is packaged as a jewel inside a nice little box. With the second generation they made the unit a little bit smaller with a more sleeker rounder design.
This Apple iTouch device is mainly two things, a music player and a surfing board. Apple have included their web browser Safari and with the built in wifi it loads websites fast. I tried surfing on this site using the touch and it works flawlessly. It is the same page I see on this unit as i see on my computer. The full page, nothing less.
To scroll the page I just sweep my finger up and down. I can zoom to a section of the page by just double tapping that area on the page and it understands I want to see a bigger version of that page. This method of navigating with your finger works very well.
One thing that really amazes me about this thing is when I type some kind of text. The unit display a keyboard with letters I have to touch. And even if I am a bit careless when typing it still understands the particular letter I want to write, it is like it can read my mind. No really, it is true you have to try it yourself to believe.
When I first played with it I tried really hard to hit the right letter, and sometimes it suggested the wrong one, or missed. Then I changed tactics and when I didn't try so hard to hit the right letter it was so much easier to get it right. It is like it understands what you want to type.
The device also have something called accelerometer which notices if you turn the screen in that case it flips the contents of the screen too. This applies when you are listening to music. If you flip it over you get the cover flow.
There is also a YouTube button on the device. They re encode the videos from flash to H.264 and the viewing on the iPod touch is fast and without problems. It is also possible to bookmark the videos specifically for your device so that you can get them fast later on.
With the iTunes App Store you now get access to a lot of applications you can use, many of them for free too.
Videos you might have in iTunes can be converted and synced to the device. Those gigabytes can be filled up fast if you load it with many videos ...
You also get calendar, contacts, clock, calculator, weather forecasts, stocks, maps, notes, mail and a lot more !
It is also possible to hack it, to get even more applications onto the device. It is really easy too. To find out you can check out my personal review of the 1st generation iPod touch here.
In the end this is the device for you that doesn't need or want the iPhone but still want all the cool features of the touch screen and the applications iTunes App Store can provide. The applications alone might just be worth it. As said before, this device is just like the iPhone without the phone and a little bit smaller.
You get the device in three different sizes, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB flash memory.
But I want to find good iPod Touch prices ...
It is understandable that you would want that. If you are college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level you actually get a free iPod Touch if you buy a Mac at the same time. It is Apples back-to-school offer they have every year. But then you need to buy a new Mac, maybe not exactly what you thought about ... ?
You could consider finding a used one at ebay, that would probably save you some cash and you can find good bargains there. Another option is to buy the 1st Generation, that can save you a lot of money and you still get a really good player. It is definitely not outdated yet.
