With iPhoto it is fun and easy to edit and organize my images

When I first started using Mac OS X I wanted to try out iPhoto, I had heard so much about it. And boy this application really rocks! And with version 7 and 8 it became even better.

It is really easy to get your images to the computer, and organize them into events. You can hide the images you do not want to show, and it doesn't really delete the files. If you do some editing, cropping or doing something with your image that you regret, your original file is always intact. This means you basically can go bananas in your library without worrying about the original file. You can always retrieve it!. My spouse use it for all her images and it works really well. Even with RAW images from our Nikon D40.

iphoto icon I demonstrated this software to my mother that likes to take pictures with her digital camera and she said boldly: I am buying a Mac. She use a PC to unload her pictures now and she is not that happy about it, it is confusing for her to organize the pictures in a good way.

We have support for geo-tagged images in iPhoto now too. This means that you can view on a map, where the picture was taken. If the camera supports this feature. If you know where the photo was taken you can pin it to the map too. Face recognition is also one of the new features and it works really good.

Apple also have a service that enables you to order stylish books, calendars or cards made up with your pictures. I tried it once and when I got the package home I was amazed over how good quality it actually was. Everything from the binding of the book and the paper quality.

This is probably the application we use the most, and it looks nice too ;)

Of course it is not the only application available. For your more professional needs you might want to check out Aperture or Adobe Lightroom. These two applications might interest those who want more editing possibilities with their images. Although these are not native applications and you need to buy them, but they are well worth it.

Can I get iPhoto For Windows?

Sorry, I am afraid iPhoto is only available for us owning a Mac computer. However you have something else that is somewhat similar. Not better but it works. And that is Google Picasa. It works quite well actually so you should give it a try if you are stuck using Windows. It is free too, wont cost you a dime.
