iPhone 4G and iOS4 facts

Apple recently released the new iPhone 4G with the all new iOS4. The design rumors was also true, the phone is redesigned using a lot of glass and steel. Smaller size: 9.3mm thats 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS.

The display is upgraded to something called: retina display. The technology behind this is to increase the pixel density of the display by a factor of 4x. In the same amount of space as before. This make text and generally everything you see on the display look a lot sharper compared to other mobile devices.

Apple put their own developed A4 CPU into this thing. The same CPU we have in the Apple iPad. To get more room in this device Apple decided to go with Micro SIM. Actually the biggest component in this device is the battery. It gives up to 300 hours standby. 40 hours with music, 10 hours watching movies or browsing using WiFi. 6 Hours 3G browsing and 7 hours 3G talk time.

The gyroscope is a new addition to the iPhone 4G. It will give us a new dimension to gaming.

5 megapixel camera

This camera will be better in low light conditions compared to the previous generation. The built-in LED flash, backside illuminated sensor will help us take better pictures. The camera also records 720p HD video in 30fps. You can also edit the video directly on the device itself. Apple have released an mobile version of iMovie for this purpose.

The operating system running on the phone is now called: iOS4, the most advanced mobile OS in the world. Multitasking, folders, unified inbox, camera and photo enhancements just to name a few. Better enterprise integration, huge amount of features, a lot of updates everywhere.

Video Call

Something Apple likes to call FaceTime Calling. You can call your friends using video if they have the same phone, over WiFi. They are working with cell providers to get things up and running over the cell network.

Release and Price

It will come in two colors, black and white. The price in the US will be $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model. The iPhone 3G is now out of production. The 3GS will be on sale for $99 from June 24th 2010.

Release in the US is June 24. More countries will follow in July, August and September.

iOS4 Upgrades to our older phones?

It will be possible to download the iOS4 to our older 3G and 3GS phones. We will not be able to use all features but the upgrade will be free. Free for iPod Touch users as well.
