How to use an iPhone to its fullest potential

How to use an iPhone to its fullest potential. Learn all the cool tricks you can do with this breathtaking phone.

To write up a guide about how to use an iPhone is to say the least, challenging. It is almost like saying: how to use a computer?. The iPhone is in essence a mini computer running a mini version of Mac OS X and we all know we can do about everything on a computer, right?

Sometimes we forget that the Apple iPhone is a phone too but it is so much more. Let me show you some of the things I like with this "computer".

The standard out of the box applications

So ... where to begin? I am sure you know about the iPod, the iPhone is a fully fledged iPod as-well. It will play in the background when you are performing other tasks, and it supports all features of iTunes like cower-flow, genius, podcasts, audiobooks, movie rentals to name a few. With iPhone OS3 it can now be controlled by your voice too. It will of course pause the music if you receive a call and continue where you left off when you are done with the call.

Safari, this is one of the best, or I can say it is the best mobile web browser I have ever used. It renders the entire website for you to give you an overview. Then you just tap at the text block you want to read and it will automatically zoom to that part. Or you can use two fingers to zoom in at any part of the page you would like.

It is easy to set up your mail account if it is yahoo, gmail, exchange or any other provider. With some of the mail providers like gmail for example you only need to enter your e-mail address and password and everything is set up for you automatically.

You have even more features and things to play with for example a Camera. It is not the best mobile camera around so if that is important for you it might be a deal-breaker. The iPhone camera is not that good. The camera is a bit better in the latest iPhone 3GS though.

And now to the best part about how to use an iPhone ...

Use The App Store!

When Apple launched the App Store they made it possible for third party developers to make applications for the Apple iPhone. The App Store has been a huge success. Even though Apple have a strict quality control and rules developers have to follow we have a lot of good quality and usable applications to download. Some cost a little bit of money and some of them are free of charge. This is what I like best with the iPhone, the ability to download applications that extend the usability of the phone. Making it just like a mini computer as I have stated above.

The huge amount of applications available makes it difficult to recommend something to you but one little application I like is the Remote. It is a free application released by Apple that enables you to control iTunes, Apple TV and AirTunes speakers right from your iPhone. The remote works via the Wi-fi network in your house so you can control iTunes on your computer from anywhere as long as you have the Wi-Fi connection available.

You can do a lot more of course ... if you have iTunes installed I recommend going into the App Store part of the iTunes store and check out the applications and iPhone games. You can sort by rating, and browse through several categories. Maybe you will find something you really like. Lastly I hope this little guide makes you realize how to use an iPhone can benefit you in the long run.
