How to restore an iPod is really easy, you may need to do this if you want to solve a problem or go back to the factory defaults.

If your iPod is having a problem, sometimes the best course of action is to restore the iPod. You should know that this will restore the iPod to the state it was in when it was brand new. And thus all of your songs, settings and other content will be wiped completely. Make sure you have a backup somewhere because you are going to delete everything now!

First make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. If not download and install it now.

Make sure you have a working Internet connection, I assume you have one, because you are reading this. iTunes might want to download the latest iPod software, it downloads that from the Internet. Start iTunes now and connect your iPod to the computer.

When the iPod is detected in the source panel of iTunes go to the Summary tab and click restore. I would want to choose updating to the latest version. With newer iPod models you leave it connected to the computer.

Make sure to follow the instructions, you should see a progress bar on your iPod now, it could be difficult to see but when that progress bar is visible it is important that you do NOT disconnect the iPod from the computer, or the power adapter.
