I assume you have a few CDs at home with music already. You can take those CDs and insert them into your computer (one CD at a time of course...). Start up iTunes and it will import the CD to iTunes. Now you can just drag the music in iTunes over to your new iPod. Simple, right?

But what if you only have a handful of CDs and want to load more music onto your iPod? You may have thought about going the illegal route, but will you risk getting caught and pay a lot of $ in fines? I guess not. And this site will not give you any information about how to download commercial songs for free. You can find that information elsewhere...

However there are still other ways I can show you how to download to iPod and load your iPod with free music from independent artists. There is a lot of websites out there where you can find totally free mp3 music downloads. In my opinion, some of that music is much better compared to the commercial crap released nowadays anyway.

Show me the free MP3 downloads

If I would list all sites that provide free MP3 music it is going to be a big list ... I will recommend some sites I personally like and have used myself.

CTG Music Community - This is a site where you can find a good deal of Dance / Trance music. But other genres too. They have a chart list so you can check out the highest rated songs.

SoundClick - Country, Classical, Jazz, Electronica to name a few. All types of genres you need. This site also features charts in all different genres so you can find the highest rated songs. A lot of good quality music here.

Beatmaka - People cant just upload their songs here and be done with it. They go through quality control so you will mostly find good tracks here. It all depends on what you like but this control makes some of the crappiest songs go away at least.

You can find other sites too, google is your friend here. Try to search for independent free music and you will probably find some more good sites.

Commercial artists releasing free music

Some commercial artists doesn't like the way the big record companies conduct business. Some of these artists have decided to release some of their music for free.

Nine Inch Nails - The Slip
Nine Inch Nails release their album: The Slip for free. You can even get it in higher than CD quality. I just wish more artists would go this route.

There is a lot of free music out there if you just know where to look. This concludes the how to download to iPod guide. I hope you found something you liked. You will surely be able to fill it up to the rim with the links I just presented you with.
