There are some free online games for Mac you should take a look at. In the past Mac OS X haven't had many games to choose from. Now when Apple gain more and more market-share we also see the release and support for Mac online games increase. This page lists some of the games I feel are worth taking a closer look at.
Quake Live
Quake Live is Quake III Arena free in your web browser. Quake III Arena was a stand-alone game for Windows in the early years, however ID Software decided to make the game web-based and release it for free. You will also be happy to know that when you first set up your free account you have to play a match against the computer. It will then calculate how good you are so when you search for a match online it will try to match the skill level of the people you are going to play with.

World Of Warcraft (10 - days free)
World Of Warcraft, often just called "WoW" is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game. I should already tell you that this game is not free if you decide to play it. You have to pay a subscription fee. However you have ten free days to play and decide if this is something for you. I need to warn you that this is an extremely addictive game. If you decide to continue playing you could be stuck for many hours playing this game.

Nexuiz is a free first person shooter game developed under the open source flag. The game is currently being updated and developed by volunteers. They have worked on this game since 2005 when the first release came out.

If you like flight simulators this one may get your attention. This game is also developed under open source. Meaning it is in constant development.

There are more free online games for Mac out there. However the games selected above deserves some extra attention in my opinion. You could also check out steam for Mac. They begin to have a big catalog of mac online games. Including Half-Life 2, Portal and others. They are not free of course but many of the games have low prices.
