Fieldrunners Show Us A Good Tower Defense Game

Fieldrunners is a tower defense game for the iPhone. This is an strategy game where your object is to stop enemies from crossing the playing field while building up your defense consisting of different types of towers.

I was going to write up this review yesterday but somehow the time went, and I had to get some sleep before work that day. This just proves how addictive this game is. When you start playing it is quite hard to put it down again. I keep telling myself just one more round ... and there you go.

The Towers

The goal and the way you play this game is actually quite simple. You have several towers to choose from when you start playing. Gatling Tower, this is the cheap and low range tower. Goo Tower, this slows enemies down. Missile Tower, this one is good for enemies in the air. Lightning Tower, this is powerful but expensive.

Later you will also have access to the Flamethrower Tower and a Mortar Tower shooting bombs at enemies in range. The range of the mortar tower is wider compared with the missile tower.

So, you have to place these towers onto the map, and try to route a path so that the enemy get gunned down before they reach the exit. At the same time you can also upgrade towers to make them more powerful.

Gameplay

You drag the tower you want to place on the map with your finger, this works quite well. Some times I experienced a slight lag when doing that, especially when a new round was around the corner. Maybe it was a little bit annoying but it didn't hurt my gameplay. You can also zoom in the map if you want to be more precise. You can also pause the game while placing towers around the map if you want. It is possible to micro manage without any problems at all.

As I said earlier this game stole a large bit of my time, it is well worth downloading and paying for. This game can kill hours, if you want. Make sure you have a power-source nearby. Fieldrunners made my battery go from 80% charge to 20%.
