Apple TV 3, Dosent Change Anything
I have yet to find any good enough reason to use this box. The new released software update: Apple TV 3 still doesn't make me want to buy it. I had this box once, tried it, sold it again. Basically the Apple TV is an extension to iTunes, it plays the media you already have in iTunes. Forget any divx files, MKV files or anything released in a codec Apple (read: iTunes / Quicktime) doesn't like.
Here is what it looks like now.
There are ways to hack this box though, but still the hardware just wont cope with the higher bit rate files.
However, if you have all your media in iTunes you will probably enjoy this little piece of weak hardware and software. Be my guest, buy it and try it out. Just don't come back to me complaining it wasn't what you expected.
I am using the mac mini as media center instead. Using it together with Plex makes it all I ever would want from a media center solution.
