iTunes was originally an application called SoundJam back in the day... Apple however purchased that application and renamed it to iTunes. A new user interface was made and the support for burning CDs was one of the first features. The apple iTunes store was not released before version 4.

A lot of things has happened since then and the software is not only a way to manage your music library anymore. You manage and update your iDevice from iTunes (iPod, iPad, iPhone). For me the most welcome change of the apple itunes download was when Apple decided to remove the DRM protection. DRM is a way to limit you, the user to play your song on a set number of authorized devices. Now you can play your purchased songs wherever you want. Limiting users who actually pays for digital media is not the way to go in my opinion. Here Apple did a good job with the big media companies.

I have found a lot of artists I forgot the name of when just browsing the apple iTunes download store and checking out the bestselling charts. Not long ago you got a 30 second preview of a song but it is increased to 1 minute and 30 secs now.

iTunes Keeps Your Media Organized And Tidy

Many of you probably know about iTunes already (especially if you read this far) and use it. When I switched to Mac I was searching for a replacement to Winamp. Winamp was the application I had used for many years and I had a hard time leaving it behind.

I became frustrated because I could not find one application with any similarities to Winamp, not one application I liked anyway. It took a while until I realized. This was the way to go. This is the definitive Mac music application. In the beginning I was not comfortable trusting one application to handle all my audio files. After a while though I did understand the Apple way of doing things. Why should I handle my files manually? I have a computer for crying out loud! The computer is made to work, and it should work for ME. This thinking is really hard to grasp if you have lived in the Windows world for quite some time. You are kind of used to trick the computer into doing what you want.

I can guarantee you will love this wonderful Mac music jukebox, if you come from a Windows environment, it may take some time to adjust. But with a open mind you will be hooked in no time. Just give it some time.

One thing that might take some time is to organize all the music you have, maybe you have missing ID tags of a few songs in the library, and the task of giving all music the right names may seem daunting. However if you take your time and do it it will be so much easier to find and listen to the music you have.
