Apple Aperture and Adobe Lightroom more or less targets the same customer base. Although there are differences in the applications they are basically the same.
Some would disagree? perhaps... but the little I have seen of Lightroom suggests just that. For me the choice is Apple Aperture but that is because I feel more comfortable in that application. I like the easy vault-backup feature and I am used to it. Not saying it is better of course. I am no photo expert! It also got a price reduction recently with the launch of App Store for Mac, perhaps making the choice easier.
Some say that Lightroom is best for actual editing and post processing photos. While Aperture have better organizing features but less editing capabilities compared to lightroom.
I think it boils down to a choice of taste, really. If you like Adobe, go for Lightroom. If you like Apple, go for Aperture. A friend of mine with his DSLR camera uses lightroom and is quite happy with it and its features.
The priority should always be taking stunning photos, no application can help you with that. Sure, you can edit your pictures to a great extent but sooner or later it is up to you to take good photographs but I guess you already knew that?
Below you have links to some comparison reviews, I will leave you with those and hope you will find the software that suits your workflow.
