About The 15 Inch MacBook Pro Battery

All laptops need some sort of power source to run. Most commonly known as batteries. The 15 inch Macbook pro battery have seen changes during its lifetime. It wasn't long ago Apple released the unibody Macs meaning the battery now is internal. With no easy way to replace it.

Making the Macbook pro battery internal gives more space for the actual battery itself because it eliminates the need for latches and mechanics that hold it into place. Meaning your computer can stay powered on a longer time. The drawback here is that there is no easy way to replace the battery. It even have special screws requiring custom tools.

If you have one of the older Macbook Pros you are in luck because those batteries are replaceable. It is always possible to buy a new battery at your favorite store. Amazon is one of those places.

As you can see on the pictures below: making the battery internal gives more room for the battery itself, compared to having it externally.

Aftermarket Batteries, Safe To Use?

As we all know Apple demand premium price for their products. Often the quality is a bit higher (in my opinion). If you want to save some cash it is possible to buy a third-party 15 inch macbook pro battery. But, is it safe?

First of all, if your computer is still covered by warranty I would suggest buying an original battery. If you buy a third-party battery and it explodes or damage your computer in such a way you that need it repaired. The warranty will most likely not cover it!

In general aftermarket batteries are pretty safe because the manufacturers have to make the batteries work in the device they are making it for. As an example, lets say the MacBook Pro needs a battery with Lithium Ion technology. 7.2 Volts, 6000mAh. The manufacturer then makes a battery with the needed specs. Your laptop doesn't care if the battery has a label from Apple. As long as the technical specs are alright it should work just fine.

Make sure to read some reviews before you buy it though, Google the model number and do some research first.

Also be aware of the fact that failure rate of batteries is not 0%. Original batteries can fail and have failed big-time during the years. Many laptop manufacturers recalled many of the original batteries from their product lines, because of failures. Even Apple have done this in the past.

Ultimately it is up to you to decide, but I wouldn't be afraid to buy an aftermarket battery, at least when the computer is outside warranty.
